The schedule of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation polls has shocked many as it offered very little time for the candidates to prepare. According to the EC, the candidates need to submit their applications by November 20th and the EC would examine the applications by Nov 22nd and the last day to withdraw the nominations would be Nov 24. While the election for the 150 wards is going to be held on Dec 1st and the counting and result will be announced on Dec 4th. Certainly, this is too little time for a candidate to make necessary preparations and do proper campaign. Even traditional parties are going to be affected as the election is called in with a very short period of time.
On the other hand, some political analysts opine that the ruling TRS has en edge due to this. Since the TRS is at the helm of affairs it could be an advantage for the pink party if the elections are held at the earliest. After Dubbak setback, Opposition Congress needs to muster its strength and bring back its cadre into an order. Even though BJP won Dubbak it was only possible with a lot of planning. Ground reports indicate that BJP is not fully prepared for the GHMC election. As GHMC election is too close, this becomes a major challenge for all the candidates to draw attention of voters and come out with flying colours.
