RRR Release Date: Bollywood’s Top Producer Upset

After postponing twice, SS Rajamouli has announced October 13, 2021 as the fresh and final release date of his forthcoming magnum opus RRR. After mulling various options, Jakkanna has decided to release RRR simultaneously in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam on Oct 13th ahead of Dasara season. However, this hasn’t gone down well with Bollywood’s one of the top producers Boney Kapoor.

Boney Kapoor’s production ‘Maidaan’ featuring Ajay Devgn had announced October 15, 2021 as the release date much earlier. This is in tune with the Bollywood tradition where producers lock in film’s release date in advance. Now, Boney Kapoor is raising a strong objection to RRR clashing with Maidaan as it would affect the film’s prospects at the Box Office.

In fact, Boney has a valid reason for raising objection to RRR release for Dasara. While Maidaan features Ajay Devgn in the lead, RRR too has Ajay Devgn playing a significant role. When it comes to Hindi promotions of RRR, certainly Rajamouli would bank upon Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt who are from the Hindi industry. Having two films of the same actor within a gap of two days would certainly have a telling effect on the film that is releasing second.That’s why Boney is raising strong objection to RRR coming on Oct 13.

Meanwhile, it is buzzed that Ajay Devgn is also reportedly shocked with RRR announcing Oct 13 as its date. It is rumoured that Ajay Devgn is not aware of this development in prior. This is said to be the reason Ajay hasn’t posted the RRR release date poster on his social media platforms. Boney is arguing that why does Rajamouli’s RRR need a holiday weekend after delivering two blockbusters Baahubali. Boney is hoping that Ajay Devgn would support him in his fight against RRR.

However, Rajamouli has a strong backing in the form of Bollywood’s ace producer Karan Johar who will be presenting the film in Hindi region. Bollywood’s leading distributor Anil Thadani, who distributed Baahubali films, is likely to distribute RRR as well. And this is going to be a big setback to Boney’s Maidaan.

It needs to be seen whether Boney, Karan and Rajamouli would resolve this Box Office clash amicably or not. Meanwhile, RRR’s release date poster is facing plagiarism allegations. It is alleged that RRR poster has striking resemblance to Ghost Rider (2007) poster. Rajamouli is yet to respond to plagiarism allegations as well as release date clash with Boney’s Maidaan.
