Lockdown Stories: No Money, 6 foreigner tourists hide in caves

The shocking incident has been unveiled in Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand that six foreigners, who are tourists to India, were found hiding in the caves near the Ganga river for the past 25 days. The reason was the tourists had to check out their accommodated hotels due to shut down in the country resulting in running out of money and no shelter.

The six tourists consist of four men and two women and after finding them, the officials have put them in quarantine and examined medically. All six of them have no CVOID-19 symptoms so far. The news about tourist has first come into light when officials in Laxmanjhula police station area received information that some foreign nationals were staying in caves near the Ganga river in the Garun Chatti area.

Soon after, the intelligence unit carried out a joint search operation in the area. “During the search operation, six foreign nationals were found hiding in separate caves. They told the police that they were staying there from March 24. They have earlier lived in hotels in Muni Ki Reti police station area and had to check out due to shortage of money,” said Rajendra Singh Kathait, SHO, Laxmanjhula.

Since 24 March, the foreigners purchased food from nearby markets and used to cook meals inside the caves using wooden planks as fuel. Of the six, two are from Ukraine and one each from Turkey, USA, France, and Nepal.
