A Stunning 55 Cr Deal For Jayalalithaa’s Biopic

A biopic on the legendary erstwhile actress and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu J Jayalalithaa has been in the making since last year. Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut is reprising Jayaa’s role in this Tamil-Hindi bilingual film, titled Thalaivi.

In an interview, Kangana recently claimed that Thalaivi’s Hindi and Tamil versions’ digital rights have been acquired by the leading OTT players Netflix and Amazon Prime Video respectively for around Rs 55 crores.

Needless to say, this is a massive deal for a female-centric film. However, Kangana and the film’s makers are in no mood to skip the theatrical release and go for a straight digital premiere. At least forty percent of the film’s shoot is still left to be complete.

Thalaivi is being directed by AL Vijay and produced jointly by Tollywood producer Vishnu Induri and Bollywood filmmaker Shailesh Singh. Senior Tollywood writer V Vijayendra Prasad has penned the story for this period drama.
