One of the talked about points from Pawan Kalyan’s Bheemla Nayak title song is, the location where they have shot Thaman and others. Giving that tribal feel to the song, the musicians and singers were filmed in a forest, which they say is almost 100kms from Chennai. But here’s another fact.
Apparently, the song was completely short indoor using a green screen matte and there is no question of any real forest there. The lush green hilly terrain, trees and plants, were are completely created in post-production used an advanced 3D modelling and game designing software called Unreal Engine. Cinematographer Manoj Paramahamsa is said to have spearheaded this team and tied up with a company to create ultra-realistic 3D backgrounds for the green-screen shot visuals.
Guess what, while shooting the song on a green screen itself, the VFX team will be able to watch it live, how the replaced background footage will be like. That’s the latest live-flow integration technology being used in Hollywood from a time, with which films like Jungle Book are created completely in CG and made to look super lively and real. Thaman, Sivamani and the other entourage along with singers Srikrishna and Kinnera Mogulaiah have gone to a studio setup where some foreground elements are created by the art department using live plants, and the rest of the thing was managed quite well in CG.
Upcoming films like Pushpa are also making vast use of this game design engine’s technology, while director Sampath Nandi has already got a sample pitch video made in the same software using the local Hyderabad team, and released it too. Hope our filmmakers use these software to create some fantasy worlds and deliver world class products rather limiting it to simple trees and promotional videos.
