Thalaivii, the much-talked-about biopic on yesteryear silver screen diva and former Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa, had its theatrical release on September 10th in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut portrayed Jayalalithaa’s role in the movie, while Kollywood actor Arvind Swami was seen as legendary Tamil thespian and former Tamil Nadu CM MG Ramachandran.
Thalaivii’s Hindi version had its digital premiere on Netflix on September 25th, exactly a couple of weeks after its theatrical release. Since then, the film has been ruling the Netflix India top 10 charts by continuously occupying the number 1 slot.
Thalaivii has surpassed other most watched movies and shows on Netflix India like Squid Game, The Guilty, Kota Factory 2, Sex Education and Money Heist 5 etc to maintain its numero uno position for over 2 weeks straight. The film’s South Indian versions are all set for their premieres on Amazon Prime Video tomorrow (Oct 10th).
Multiplexes across North India refusing to screen Thalaivii due to the producers’ prior agreement with Netflix for an early premiere has helped the film rule the charts on Netflix. Fans and audiences who missed the film in cinemas enjoyed it on their mobiles and TV screens and revisited Jayalalithaa’s glorious career in movies and politics through the AL Vijay directorial.
