OTT Times: Huge Demand For Reviews!

Filmmakers, movie producers, actors and sometimes technicians get offended by movie reviews. They are happy to share when their film gets positive reviews, but they will be unhappy most of the time as the success rate of movies is just over ten percent every year. Which is why few filmmakers demand to ban movie reviews at every given opportunity.

However, that is not the case with OTT releases. Filmmakers want frontline reviewers and popular news portals to publish a review of their movie that dropped on an OTT platform. A movie released in theaters will generate word of mouth that ultimately plays the vital role in success/failure of it. But a movie released digitally cannot reach the masses like a theatrical release.

A digital release will make some buzz on social media, but the ‘social media talk’ is not reliable, as the users mostly try to appease the filmmakers and actors so that they acknowledge their opinions and share/like them. So, how to reach the audience that are choosy? Those who wouldn’t watch a film unless they know that it is worth their time even if it is streaming online.

This is where the verdict of trusted websites and reviewers has become crucial for an OTT release. People are adding movies/series to their watchlist based on the recommendations from the critics/websites they trust.

Filmmakers are usually against ‘reviewing’ their content if it is released in theaters as it may put a dent in their business to some extent. But they are hoping that their movie/series that is released online gets reviewed by the prominent websites and news portals so that it will get maximum reach.Negative feedback will still hurt them, but any kind of feedback is needed for digital content that cannot be promoted as aggressively as a movie that releases in theaters.
