Puneet Rajkumar
The Kannada film industry is still mourning the untimely demise of Powerstar Puneeth Rajkumar. Hundreds of fans and people are paying a visit to Kateerava studio where Puneeth’s last rites were held and they are offering prayers for his soul to rest in peace.
Abiding by his father’s promise, Puneeth’s eyes were donated after his passing away. A day after Puneeth breathed his last, the actor’s corneas were donated and they were deposited in Narayana Nethralaya, which runs Dr Rajkumar Eye Bank.
On Monday, Dr Bhujang Shetty Founder-Chairman, Narayana Nethralaya informed that four young people benefited from Puneeth’s eye donation. Generally two corneas from a deceased individual are transplanted into two corneal blind patients but the doctors have sliced Puneeth’s corneas into four parts. The superior and deeper layers of the cornea were separated and each layer was given to one individual.
Three men and a woman underwent the transplant surgery informed the doctors and the patients are recovering well. The four patients are said to be aged between 20 to 30 years and were on a waiting list for eye donation for six months now. Due to Covid-19, eye donation was kept on hold and there have been long queues for eye donations across several eye banks in India.
This immeasurable contribution by Puneeth Rajkumar deserves a bow!
