Kurup Lands Into Legal Trouble On Release Day

Dulquer Salmaan starrer Kurup, a crime drama, has been released today and the film is getting a good response from the audience and critics alike. However, the film has landed in legal trouble as a case was filed against the film in Kerala HC.

According to the Public Interest Litigation (PIL), the movie may violate the rights to privacy of Sukumara Kurup, the criminal on whom the story is based. PIL has been filed before the court seeking to stop the release of the film.

Soon after, the Kerala High Court issued notices to the Centre, the State Government, Interpol, and film producers. The court did not pass any stay order on the film’s release though. Kurup also grabbed attention earlier for ‘glorifying’ a criminal.

Dulquer plays the role of a conman Sukumara Kurup who had murdered another man in the 80s to fake his own death and claim the insurance money. Kurup also stars Indrajith Sukumaran, Sunny Wayne, Shine Tom Chacko, Sobhita Dhulipala, Anupama Parameswaran and Shivajith Padmanaban in important roles.

The actor told that the team has fought many battles internally and externally to bring it together and to bring justice to it. According to director Srinath Rajendran, the idea of the film came randomly and was in fact conceived in 2012. The title was announced in 2018 and it was shot for nearly two years.
