A proven formula in Telugu films is that you can take any backdrop including a foreign country or a non-Telugu speaking state, but then you have to make sure that the story is about a Telugu guy and the whole characters speak in the Telugu language. There comes Nani’s Syam Singha Roy which is being discussed widely in trade circles right now.
Nani wanted to narrate the story of a Bengali guy through Syam Singha Roy and the teaser proved it already. But what’s surprising is that the teaser has a Bengali dialogue, and many times, Telugu folks haven’t connected with such non-Telugu setups. Such films work until and unless the whole dialogue portion is completely in Telugu, like how it happened with films like Vikramarkudu. So what has Nani done inside this Rahul Sankrityan directorial has become a talking point now.
One wonders if Nani and his team have come up with this Bengali dialogue just for the sake of the teaser or the whole film has this Bengali flavour throughout the flashback episodes. Apparently, Nani and Sai Pallavi play a Bengali couple who reside in central Calcutta and oppose the tradition of pushing young women into traditional prostitution and beyond. But hope the director hasn’t put too much of a Bengali theme into it as that might upset Telugu folks big time is what the trade circuits are feeling right now.
As the teaser of the film has raised doubts, distributors are wondering if the team of Syam Singha Roy will give a clarity about it.
