Suriya’s ‘Jai Bhim’ was one of the critically acclaimed films of 2021. Though the film had an OTT release, the response it garnered from every corner of the country was astounding. Inspired by real events, Suriya’s performance as advocate Chandru was highly appreciated. In IMDB, ‘Jai Bhim’ achieved a huge feat with 9.3 ratings and it surpassed many Hollywood films as well.
Now ‘Jai Bhim’ recorded another milestone by featuring on the official YouTube channel of The Academy i.e, Oscars. In the 12 minute video, the director Tha. Se. Gnanavel explains who caste discrimination is deep rooter and how the tribal community is exploited by the upper caste people with influence.
“This film is not just about custodial violence faced by tribal people. How caste discrimination forms the basis of custodial discrimination. That’s the theme of the film,” says director Gnanavel. He also revealed what struck him while doing research for this film.
To feature on Oscar’s YouTube channel is no ordinary thing and ‘Jai Bhim’ continues to win laurels, it deserves.
