Setback For Theatres Management In AP HC

The AP High Court questioned the objection of theatres management of AP for approaching the court over an online ticket booking proposal brought by the AP government. “What is wrong with selling tickets online? This will reduce evasion of tax and price transparency,” commented the High Court.

Apparently it was the multiplex association of Indian that approached the AP High Court against online ticket booking and in their petition, the association claimed that the G.O. issued by the government on online ticketing could lead to monopoly and this would drain the fundamental right. The association also added that the people are still not aware of the online ticket booking.

The AP High Court was not convinced with these arguments and stated that people have knowledge on online ticket booking and there is no fundamental right here.

However the AP High Court has postponed the case by four weeks but it had served notices to AP State Home Secretary, Law Secretary and AP State Film Television, Theatres Development Corporation (APSFTVTDC).

On December 17th, the AP government published G.O. number 142 bringing in the online ticket booking under the radar of (APSFTVTDC). The section 5(A) in this G.O. was challenged by the multiplex association of India.
