The impact of the Omicron variant has been reducing significantly in India and we are nearing the end of the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, we cannot just ignore the COVID-19 protocols yet because the experts opined that the fourth wave is inevitable.
Reportedly, the fourth wave of the pandemic will hit us in June and may continue till October. According to a study conducted by IIT Kanpur scientists, the severity of the fourth wave depends on the variant and also the vaccination status across the country.
As per the study, the fourth wave starts 936 days after the initial COVID-19 data availability date in the country. The initial data availability date is January 30, 2020. Thus, the fourth wave may start on June 22, 2022, and will reach its peak on August 23, 2022. It may finally end on October 24, 2022.
Apparently, the impact of the fourth wave will be at its peak from the period between August 15 – August 31. The intensity of the new variant will depend on various factors like infectibility, fatality, and many others.
There is no guarantee that the new variant will be less severe than the previous variants. Omicron may continue to evolve and form Omicron-plus variants or we may witness a whole new variant altogether, opined the experts.
