Tollywood In Need Of A Strong Villain

Ace director Rajamouli has once proved to Tollywood the importance of having a strong villain. For every film of his, like Chatrapathi, Sye and Magadheera, he used to find out new talents and make them look like dreaded villains on the screen. And those villains made their careers out of those roles. But what about the present day movies in Tollywood?

In recent times, we have seen super hits like Akhanda, Pushpa and Bheemla Nayak which have strong hero-villain conflict, but then the roles played by the so-called villains are ineffective. They are not so impressive in the sense that the actors who played them haven’t made an impact on people or created a name for themselves, though those films had a terrific run at the box office.

We have Fahadh Fassil making name from Pushpa, but actually, Rao Ramesh and Sunil are the main villains of the movie. Similarly, the actor who played villain in Balayya’s Akhanda hasn’t made a name for himself as the was clouded by the hero as well as director Boyapati and composer Thaman. In Bheemla Nayak, Rana played the villain’s role but the character design is not so villainous that he hasn’t gained much attention though many lauded his acting prowess.

Cut to the other big film Radhe Shyam, the film has no villain in place, while Jagapathi Babu’s character is made to show as an antagonist. And all the actors who tried to bring some negative color to their roles looked pretty ordinary in this high-budgeted film that hasn’t reached the expectations of the audience.

So what’s in store for Tollywood in the coming days? Are our filmmakers coming up with some strong villain roles that people will remember forever? Is RRR going to showcase a couple of foreign actors in that fashion and Rajamouli going to recreate such villainy again? Let’s see.
