Online Movie Ticket Sales: High Court shocks AP Govt!

The government of Andhra Pradesh is planning to set up a portal to sell the movie tickets officially through them in the state. However, a few parties involved in the business are not happy about the same. The case went up for a hearing in the High Court and the court has given a shock to the government.

The High Court heard the petitions of the exhibitors and BookMyShow. The court made it clear that the current situation should continue. The government’s intention behind setting up a portal of their own is to keep a check on the black ticketing system. The government also fixed a 1.95 percent service fee on the price of the ticket.

After hearing all the arguments of the government, exhibitors and the movie ticket-selling portals, the court ordered a stay on the GO 69, passed by the government earlier. It clearly reveals that the court has suspended the GO 69 and the decision was in the favour of the movie ticket portals.

The government made attempts to clarify that the existing contracts with other online portals will not be terminated. However, the court has passed its verdict.

We have to wait and watch for the next move of the state government in the issue.
