Ever since the pandemic began, Telugu film industry has been going through a tough time with several big and medium budgeted movies failing to score and ending up as colossal disasters at the box office. Even the sky-high ticket rates is one of the main reasons behind audiences’ unwillingness to go to theaters and watch all the new releases on OTT platforms within just a couple of weeks of theatrical release.
In this scenario, star producer cum distributor Dil Raju’s Thank You, starring Naga Chaitanya and Raashi Khanna in lead roles, is gearing up to hit the big screens on July 22nd. While the release is just a couple of days away, the buzz around the movie is yet to catch up pace. Surprisingly, even the advance bookings have been opened only on Wednesday.
And what has caught everyone’s attention is Thank You’s ticket rates in the Nizam region. The film’s tickets have been priced at Rs 175 plus GST at single screens and Rs 250 plus GST at multiplexes. During one of Thank You’s promotional events a couple of days ago, Dil Raju told the media that he will screen Thank You for just Rs 100 in single screens and Rs 150 in multiplexes excluding GST.
This naturally made everyone wonder why Dil Raju has taken a u-turn and skipped his promise on Thank You’s ticket rates. In the last few months, scores of movies featuring A-list and medium range heroes failed to click at the box office due to high ticket prices.
Despite these challenges, Dil Raju has dared to screen Thank You at premium rates in Telangana. Whether his big gamble will pay off or not will be known on Friday. The film’s ticket rates in Andhra Pradesh, however, stand at Rs 145 plus GST in single screens and Rs 177 plus GST at multiplexes.
