We heard so many films like Orey Bujjiga, Red, Nishabdam and even Nani’s V being approached by big OTT players, but finally, here comes the first Telugu movie that will have a direct streaming release.
A film made by newcomers, titled ‘Amrutharamam’, is now acquired by Zee5, we hear. On April 29th, the film will have a premiere on the app, thus becoming the first ever Telugu movie to go for a direct OTT release.
Directed by newcomer Surender, the film’s rights are earlier acquired by Suresh Productions that they will be releasing it through their distribution network. And now, the film has ended up on OTT without having a theatrical release. Some producers are saying that this is the way to go, and now many other films are likely to follow Amrutharamam.
Amidst the times of Covid-19 and the subsequent lockdown, many filmmakers are getting approached by top OTTs like Amazon Prime and Netflix, if they are willing to give their films for a direct release on digital streaming apps rather waiting for 3-4 months for a theatrical release.
