Yet Another South Remake Bombs In Bollywood

Over the past few years, several hotshot Bollywood film stars and directors have been acquiring the rights to remake a series of super hit and acclaimed South movies. Dearth of minimum guarantee original scripts is said to be one of the main reasons behind Hindi filmmakers depending on South remakes.

Top Bollywood star Akshay Kumar, after Bachchan Pandey, Samrat Prithviraj and Rakshabandhan, has just delivered his fourth disaster of 2022 with Cuttputlli. The film has had a direct OTT release on popular streaming giant Disney Hotstar on Friday. However, critics are unanimously giving underwhelming reviews for the movie.

Cuttputlli is an official remake of the super hit Tamil thriller, Ratchasan. Movie lovers who have watched both the versions are of the opinion that Cuttputlli makers have ruined one of the finest Indian thrillers, as the remake is lost in translation. Incidentally, Ratchasan’s Telugu remake, Rakshasudu, starring Bellamkonda Srinivas and Anupama Parameswaran, was a decent hit at the box office.

This year, popular Telugu films like Jersey, HIT and MCA (Nikamma) were remade in Hindi and bombed bigtime. The fate of prominent South movies like Ayyappanum Koshiyum, Kaithi, Soorarai Pottru, Vikram Vedha, Ala Vaikunthapurramlo, Helen, Veeram, Chatrapati, Master and Naandhi will be known in the next few months.
