Last Year’s Diwali Was Better Than This Year’s

Somehow, expectations are not being met by Superstars in Bollywood this whole year and it has repeated now with Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgan again. While Akshay has come up with this fourth release this year, Ajay saw his second release, on the eve of Diwali on October 25th. But then, box office figures are not so exciting that the total Day 1 collection of these two films is not more than the Day 1 collection of last Diwali’s single release.

Akshay Kumar’s Ram Setu and Ajay Devgan’s Thank God have released the day before yesterday and both the movies got only average talk. While the reception of Akshay’s Ram Setu is good in mass centres, Ajay’s film with Siddharth Malhotra has garnered mixed results. On its Day, while Ram Setu made ₹15+ crores nett from the box office, Ajay’s Thank God stood at ₹8+ crores nett. On the other hand, on the eve of Diwali 2021, we have Akshay’s Sooryavanshi releasing, and that film fetched nearly ₹26 crores nett from the box office on its release day. Thus, both 2022’s Ram Setu and Thank God combined haven’t collected more than 2021’s Sooryavanshi.

When films made big collections last year when there is still 50% occupancy rule in Maharashtra, everyone is wondering why they are unable to crack big numbers this year. However, “Kantara” continued to mint terrific collections in Bollywood despite the competition from the big stars and their respective films.
