Nayanthara
The surrogacy issue of Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan created a big controversy in Tamil Nadu. The state government had set up a panel to investigate the issue. Now, the panel stated that Nayan and Vignesh hadn’t broken any laws while governing surrogacy in India.
Earlier this month, Nayan and Vignesh announced the birth of twins, Uyir and Ulagham. They were born through surrogacy. Their announcement raised speculations about their process of surrogacy, as commercial surrogacy is banned in India.
Then, the Tamil Nadu government set up a three-member panel to investigate the surrogacy process of Nayan and Vignesh Shivan. Upon investigating, the panel said that the couple’s family doctor had provided a letter of recommendation in 2020 based on which treatment was provided.
The panel said that they were not able to investigate the family doctor as he was relocated out of India. The panel’s report stated that the surrogate mother entered into an agreement with the couple in November 2021, and the embryo was placed in her in March this year. The twins were born in October.
Going by the timeline of events, it was proved that the surrogacy process of Nayan and Vignesh and legal. Thus, the controversy ended on a positive note.
