Among the Over-The-Top platforms, Netflix has its own place. In normal peak days, Netflix produces its own content with Rs 200 crore budget and that’s its range. Bringing new and fresh content and promoting them extensively is part of Netflix job. That’s why the OTT platform has many subscribers.
But Netflix landed in a controversy and this sparked an outrage on the social media. Going into details Netflix acquired the rights of a French film titled ‘Mignonnes’ and in English it is ‘Cuties.’ As part of promotions, Netflix unveiled the posters and trailer.
But these posters had young girls in revealing outfits and this invited wide criticism on Netflix. The OTT platform was quick enough to react and even apologised. Taking to Twitter, Netflix wrote “We’re deeply sorry for the inappropriate artwork that we used for Mignonnes/Cuties. It was not OK, nor was it representative of this French film which won an award at Sundance. We’ve now updated the pictures and description,” the streaming platform stated.”
‘Cuties’ is all about an 11-year-old girl, who decides to join a dance group, upsetting her mother who holds on to traditional values. The film also deals with hyper-sexualization of pre-adolescent girls.
But anyway the issue is settled now with Netflix’s sorry.
