The Enforcement Directorate summoned Puri Jagannadh and Charmi Kaur who produced Liger under Puri Connects banner. The ED has sent notices to Puri and Charmi on doubts over Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) violations in the making of Liger. Apparently, ED got suspicion on some foreign investments in the Liger. Some foreign transactions came into ED’s notice and they looked suspicious. ED wants to question Puri and Charmi before further probe. More details are still awaited.
It can be noted that the film casted international boxing champion Mike Tyson in a crucial role. A portion of the film was shot in the United States.
Puri Jagannadh and Charmi are yet to respond to the ED notices. Meanwhile, Liger starring Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday turned out to be a debacle. The film incurred losses to its distributors, exhibitors. Karan Johar has presented the film in Hindi. However, the film is wholly produced by Puri and Charmi. Puri had earlier announced to compensate the losses of the distributors and exhibitors in Telugu. Later, he was disturbed by the threats of buyers and decided to wage legal battle.
The ED summons has come as a fresh jolt to Puri and Charmi.
