Chiru and Balayya are the contemporary heroes in Telugu cinema who enjoyed enormous stardom and some biggest hits in the industry. Though there were fewer instances to compare their stardom and box office stamina, Chiranjeevi dominated in most of them.
Be it the film’s scale, collections, box office performance, market, and fan following, Chiranjeevi had an edge over Balayya all these years. Balayya’s Narasimhanaidu in 2001 was an industry hit while Chiru’s Mrugaraju was a disaster. But in 2017, Balayya’s Gautamiputra Satakarni garnered positive talk, but Chiru’s Khaidi No 150 emerged as a bigger success.
This time too, the superstars are locking horns at the box office. Like many anticipated, Chiru’s Waltair Veerayya seemed to have better buzz than that Balayya’s Veera Simha Reddy all over. Surprisingly, the same is not happening at the US box office.
In the US market, Balayya’s Veera Simha Reddy is enjoying the craze and response more than CHiru’s Waltair Veerayya. As per the pre-sales on Friday morning, Veera Simha Reddy registered $40K from 132 premieres in 61 locations with 2264 tickets sold.
Coming to Chiru’s Waltair Veerayya, the pre-sales registered $27K from 1483 tickets. Waltair Veerayya will be premiered with 114 shows in 54 locations as of now. Looking at the figures, for now, Balayya has taken over the US market from Chiru and it has to be seen how the full run ends.
