Legendary NT Rama Rao is a force to reckon with, be it in the cinema industry or in politics. However NTR did not get the due recognition from the government of India and the demand for Bharat Ratna could not see the light somehow. But soon we shall see NTR’s image on Rs 100 coins and that too silver ones.
The government of India gave its formal nod for making of the coins and with orders from GoI, the Reserve Bank of India asked the Mint officials to approach former union minister and BJP leader Daggubati Purandeshwari.
Apparently last year Purandeshwari said that for NTR’s centennial celebrations, the coins would roll out and the plan is progressing accordingly. The Mint officials have consulted Purandeshwari for suggestions of NTR’s image and they discussed some ideas.
This indeed is a great tribute to NTR’s legacy but the befitting honour would ultimately be the Bharat Ratna.
