One of the most controversial interviews that ever happened to legendary director SS Rajamouli in recent times is none other than this one published by an American magazine. In his interview given to ’The New Yorker’ an American weekly magazine, the maker of Baahubali and RRR faced several tough questions including the allegation that he is supporting the saffron brigade a lot. But there are other things too.
As choreographer Prem Rakshit is not present at many venues where the RRR team has been to receive accolades for the “Naatu Naatu” there is an outrage on the internet that the team is actually sidelining the dance master. However, Rajamouli says that there is no truth in that. In his New Yorker interview, he stated, “For me, Keeravani and Chandrabose might get credit for Naatu Naatu at Golden Globes or any other award, but Prem Rakshit is the real winner. His choreography made the song reach a huge audience. He took seven weeks to come up with 4-5 sets of ideas regarding the choreography of the song”.
Also, the director added that not just Naatu Naatu song but the iconic fight in the pre-climax of RRR where NTR lifts up Charan on his shoulders is an idea given by Prem Rakshit, and the fight was also choreographed by his inputs only. This itself is a great validation for the work of Prem Rakshit, and no doubt, he deserves this special mention.
