Sam’s Biggest Asset Turns Biggest Minus For Shaakuntalam

Sometimes even the best of the best scripts don’t work out well and one such example is
Shaakuntalam where the base script written by Kalidasa ages ago is an epic love story that continues to delight literature lovers. While the drama is a super hit on the stage for ages, many filmmakers tried to bring it to the screen, but only a few of them succeeded. And for such films, the ‘mythological’ and ‘poetic’ language is the quintessential thing.

Cut to Gunasekhar director Shaakuntalam that has Samantha in the lead, the first big minus when we watch the trailer as well as the film is none other than Samantha’s Telugu which is full of Tamil essence. While Samantha’s strength is acting skills, fit looks and glamour, she is not focusing more on that but trying to dub herself all the time. Even for Yashodha movie, her dubbing is a nightmare for Telugu folks as they are not getting connected to that. At one point of time in Shaakuntalam, her voice appeared to torture the film lovers, due to her poor command of diction and modulation.

In fact, Samantha has shot to fame for her voice as well in her debut film Ye Maaya Chesave, and for reasons unknown, she kept the dubbing artist away and gave voice herself for all the movies she is part of. As dubbing is not her strength, she should try with someone else than Chinmayi Sripada if she has issues, rather trying it herself. That’s sincere and honest advice for the actress from all circles.
