Akhil Akkineni’s Agent had high expectations due to its pre-release promotion and high budget. But after receiving an overwhelmingly negative response, the film was unable to make an impact at the box office, with occupancy in India declining from Day 1.
In three days, it failed to reach Rs 10 crore in India. On Sunday (April 30), Agent registered a mere 16.42% occupancy in Telugu and saw a dismal ending to its short theatrical run. With a reported budget of Rs 70-80 crore, the film was undoubtedly one of the biggest flops of Akhil’s career.
Despite its publicity and potential, Akhil’s highly-anticipated project was ultimately unsuccessful at the box office.
Meanwhile, the performance of Mani Ratnam’s “PS 2” surged on the second weekend, particularly in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
The real driver, however, was Sai Dharam Tej’s “Virupaksha.” After coming off the back of the failure of “Agent,” it reclaimed its place as number one over the last weekend. It has earned an incredible Rs 30 crore in both Telugu states over 10 days.
