Aishwarya Rai, aged 49, had seen a flurry of failed Bollywood projects over an extended period. Now, with the bar-raising success of Ponniyin Selvan’s movie, she has not only returned to her position of fame and celebrity status but also has won the hearts of her dedicated fans once again.
The Ponniyin Selvan movie featured Aishwarya Rai playing a dual role – mother and daughter. This received criticism from viewers, who felt that it wasn’t believable for one actor to portray both roles with the same face with very limited aged make-up.
Her body double was unable to convincingly pull off all of the stunts and her character’s aged aspect – long white hair and physique – appeared aesthetically unrealistic. It appears that the director may have unknowingly overlooked these details.
On its second day of release, Ponniyin Selvan has surpassed the ₹100 crore mark in worldwide collection. It is a major success and continues to be a box office hit.
