Bail Denied To Rhea & Brother

In yet another blow to actress Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik Chakraborty, the Mumbai’s Sessions court has rejected their bail petition.

Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik Chakraborty and five other accused have appealed for bail in the drugs case. The special court has denied granting bail to the accused.

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) argued that Rhea Chakraborty “may tamper with the evidence and also try to win over witnesses using her position in the society and money power”. The anti-drugs bureau informed the Sessions court that Rhea Chakraborty was part of drugs used by her boyfriend and late actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

The NCB told the court that Rhea was part of the offence by “procuring drugs” for Sushant. The national agency informed that Rhea Chakraborty had used her “credit card” and “payment gateways” in financial transactions related to dealing of “illicit drug trafficking”. The agency also informed the court that Rhea’s confession was “voluntary”, not coerced, and admissible in the court of law.

However, Rhea in her bail petition retracted her statement. In the bail petition, Rhea stated that she was “coerced into making self-incriminatory confessions”. She said she had “not committed any crime whatsoever and had been falsely implicated in the case”. Rhea told to court that multiple investigations and online rape and death threats took “severe toll on mental health and well-being”.

The Mumbai’s sessions court agreed with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB)’s views that the accused may “tamper” evidence. And hence, Rhea’s bail petition was denied. With the court’s decision, Rhea Chakraborty is going to stay at Byculla jail where she has been sent to judicial custody till September 22. Meanwhile, Rhea’s lawyer is going to move the Bombay High Court over her bail petition.
