Movies with a similar concept or some same banner rarely join for the same release date clash. But in one of those rarest cases, two movies with the same title are going ahead for a head-on collision.
Superstar Rajinikanth’s Jailer decided to hit the screens on August 10th and the controversy began when a Malayalam film with the same title is coming on the same day. While Rajinikanth’s Jailer is directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the Malayalam Jailer is directed by Sakkir Madathil with Dhyan Sreenivasan in the lead role.
Malayalam ‘Jailer’ director claims to have registered the title with the Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce in August 2021, much before the title of Rajinikanth starrer announced the title. Sakkir Madathil requested Sun Pictures to consider an alternative title in Malayalam to avoid confusion, but Sun Pictures reportedly declined this request.
Sun Pictures further moved the court against the title clash and Madathil also chose to settle the issue in court with a counter file in court due with the hearing on August 2. Though the court proceedings are on, both films are proceeding with their respective release plans.
The Malayalam Jailer looks like a promising thriller that has Dhyan Sreenivasan as a Jailer on a mission to get back a group of prisoners who escaped from a tight security prison.
