Vijaykumar Gavit, the tribal development minister of Maharashtra, has found himself in the midst of a controversy after suggesting that Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s beautiful eyes are a result of her regular consumption of fish. The statement was made during an event organized by the fishermen community in Dhule district.
Gavit, a prominent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA representing Nandurbar, made the remark while elaborating on the benefits of fish consumption. He highlighted Aishwarya Rai’s upbringing in the coastal area of Mangalore and attributed her stunning eyes to her fish-rich diet. He went on to advise the youth to include fish in their diet to improve their appearance and win hearts.
Critics from within the BJP party were quick to respond to the statement. BJP MLA Nitesh Rane humorously remarked that if eating fish daily could truly make eyes beautiful like Aishwarya Rai’s, he should have seen similar effects. Meanwhile, Amol Mitkari, a legislator from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), urged Gavit to prioritize addressing the challenges faced by tribal communities rather than making seemingly trivial comments.
The comment has ignited a debate about the appropriateness of such statements from a government official. As the controversy unfolds, Gavit’s comment has drawn attention to the need for public figures to exercise caution in their public statements.
