In the current trend of re-releasing old films to captivate fans and capitalize on nostalgia, some producers and fan associations have been bringing back even the less successful and flop movies of popular stars. However, amidst this wave of revivals, there is one film that stands out as a genuine gem deserving of a re-release – “Bhairava Dweepam”.
The film’s value doesn’t lie solely in the presence of Nandamuri Balakrishna, Roja, and others, or their captivating performances, but “Bhairava Dweepam” offers an extraordinary fantasy adventure, a genre that has become increasingly rare in contemporary cinema. Think about horse rides and sword duels, mythical creatures like two-headed dragons and winged horses, evil sorcerers wielding dangerous black magic, and enchanting liliputs- these elements collectively make the movie a spectacle akin to what one might expect from a Marvel or Disney fantasy production.
Helmed by the legendary filmmaker Singeetham Srinivasa Rao, the recently unveiled trailer hints at the multitude of wonders the film contains. Considering that the era of trailers was not as prevalent in 1994 as it is today, this re-release provides a unique opportunity to experience the film’s magic on the big screen. While many re-releases tend to be viewed primarily out of affection for the lead actor, “Bhairava Dweepam” presents a distinct case where the attraction lies in its enchanting “fantasy” content that is conspicuously absent from modern theaters.
“Bhairava Dweepam” is coming to cinemas on August 30th.
