In the annals of Tamil cinema, the 2015 film ‘Thani Oruvan’ has etched its name as one of the finest action thrillers. Directed by Mohan Raja and featuring Jayam Ravi and Nayanthara in lead roles, the film left an indelible mark with its compelling characters and gripping screenplay. Now, the team announced a sequel.
AGS Entertainment, the production house behind the original, is also set to back the sequel, with Mohan Raja again at the helm of directorial affairs. Jayam Ravi and Nayanthara are reprising their iconic roles as IPS Mithran and forensic specialist Mahima, respectively.
The 3-minute video employs a fascinating fourth wall-breaking concept that blurs the lines between the creator and the character. The video opens with Mohan Raja reminiscing about the character arc of Mithran, the protagonist, and his choice of the formidable Siddharth Abhimanyu (played by Arvind Swamy) as his adversary in the original film. Breaking the fourth wall in an intriguing manner, Mohan Raja interacts with his character, assuring Mithran that his enemy will choose him this time.
The announcement has sent ripples of excitement throughout the Tamil film industry. The shooting for ‘Thani Oruvan 2’ is set to commence in 2024.
Ram Charan starred in the Telugu remake of Thani Oruvan, titled Dhruva.
