On September 28th, Amazon Prime Video will be streaming the latest Telugu web series “Kumari Srimathi” which features none other than Nitya Menen in the title role. Produced by Swapna Dutt and written by Srinivas Avasarala, the 7-episode series is directed by Gomtesh, and the makers have screened the first episode for media folks on Tuesday. So what is it like?
In fact, whenever it comes to making an OTT series, most of the Bollywood filmmakers are banking on glamour, lust, explicit language and other forms of bold content. However, producer Swapna Dutt has come up with a breezy output if the first episode is anything to go by, as it has lots of Godavari touches all over the place.
While the dialogues are funny and the main lead Srimathi’s intention to open a bar in a village to fuel her ambitions of earning ₹38 lakhs to buy an ancestral property from her uncle is surely interesting, characters played by the likes of veteran heroines like Gowthami and Talluri Rameswari made it an effective narration.
However that doesn’t mean Kumari Srimathi is not without flaws as the narrative accomplishes into the usual OTT standard storytelling, but it is more like watching a commercial Telugu film that has women-power all over. However, producer Swapna believes that even OTT content should be watchable by families together rather than everyone watching it alone on their phones. Let’s see how the total series works.
