Last Friday, Tollywood witnessed the release of two dubbed films which include Karthi’s Japan and Lawrence-SJ Suryah’s Jigarthanda Double X. Surprisingly both films got similar talk, mixed reports and below par occupancy in theatres. However, what is surprising is that, both these movies have almost a similar climax that makes the viewers shocked. While that might be a coincidence, the audience didn’t expect such a sharp one in fact.
Note: Spoiler Alert for those who haven’t watched the movie, you can revisit once you have watched the film, or else you can continue.
In Karthi’s Japan, the hero dies in the end after being shot dead in an encounter with a special charge officer, played by Sunil. Even in Jigarthanda Double X, Lawrence dies in the end after being stereoscopically shot in the head by a police officer (Naveen Chandra) in an encounter. Also, the heroes in both movies invite their deaths themselves and ask the police to shoot them, though in a different tone. While Karthi realises his mistakes and asks the officer to shoot him, Lawrence wilfully asks the police to shoot him as part of a great sacrifice for his people.
This is very rare with films that have been released on the same day where heroes end up same fate with a similar ending, and that’s why Japan and Jigarthanda Double X are being discussed now.
