US: Indian Graduate Student Dies After Being Shot

A University of Cincinnati graduate student from India, Aaditya Adlakha (26) died after being shot in his car on the Western Hills Viaduct last week.

Aaditya Adlakha was located with gunshot wounds on him and the car having bullet holes from outside. His car crashed into a wall on the upper deck of the Western Hills Viaduct. The shotspotter alerted police at 6:20 am near the 2300 block of Central Parkway last Thursday.

Severely injured Aaditya Adlakha was transferred to UC Medical Center. He was in critical condition and doctors declared him dead on Saturday. The victim was shot in the head at close range. Aaditya was a fourth-year doctoral student in the molecular and developmental biology program. He was expected to complete his doctorate in 2025.

Aaditya received his bachelor’s degree in zoology in 2018 in New Delhi and his master’s degree in physiology in 2020 from All India Institute of Medical Sciences. He started at UC’s doctoral program in the fall of 2020.

“He was much-loved, exceedingly kind and humorous, intelligent and sharp, whose research was described as novel and transformative,” Dr. Andrew Filak Jr., senior vice president for health affairs, and Christian Holmes, professor and dean of the College of Medicine, said in the statement.

The reason for the attack is not known and no arrests have been made since the shooting was reported.
