In a shocking development, top streaming giant Netflix has decided to take down the film ‘Annapoorani’ from its platform following allegations by Hindu groups that it portrays anti-Hindu sentiments. The controversy has led to a legal battle, with a case filed against the film for hurting religious sentiments, resulting in the removal of the movie from Netflix.
The complaint, filed by Ramesh Solanki accused the film of offending Hindu religious sentiments and promoting ‘love jihad.’ The legal action targeted actors Nayanthara and Jai, writer-director Nilesh Krishna, and various producers and executives associated with the film.
The film revolves around an ambitious woman from a Brahmin family in Srirangam, torn between her passion and orthodox ideals. The controversy surrounds scenes depicting relationships across caste and religious differences, as well as references to Lord Rama consuming meat and a Brahmin girl wearing a hijab and offering namaz.
In response to the legal battle, Zee Studios, one of the film’s producers, has communicated to Vishwa Hindu Parishad that the film will be removed from the platform until edited.
