One of the biggest feats these days is to promote a film so aggressively that it lands up to major footfalls in theatres and irrespective of the talk, it will end up making crores. Irrespective of the first day first show talk, the audience are flocking to theatres, impressed by the hefty promotions, and looks like that trick is paying off in Bollywood.
Recently, Hrithik Roshan’s “Fighter” received a big thumbs down from the critics for its flat narrative and lack of high moments despite being a patriotic film weaved around the deadly Pulawam attack. In its 16 days run, the film managed to collect ₹190+ crores nett from the box office Though the film was made in ₹250 crores budget, surely these nett collections and the digital streaming as well as satellite rights will make things work for the producers.
Other day, Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon’s latest film, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya got released and suffered from bad talk. However, the film registered ₹7 crores nett on Day 1 and saw a spike on the second day, with ₹10 crores nett collection. Within two days, the film amassed ₹34 crores nett from the global box office and it looks like a good Sunday is on the cards despite below-average reviews. That’s how things are working in Bollywood right now.
