Our own Naatu Naatu winning Oscar turned many heads towards Indian cinema. The Hollywood filmmakers like Steven Speilberg are speaking about Indian films. Here is yet another pathbreaking film that is flaunting Indian cinema pride. Malayalam’s super successful thriller ‘Drishyam’ is being remade, a first for an Indian film!
The cult franchise Drishyam already emerged as a successful thriller in the Indian and China markets. The original Malayalam thriller with Mohanlal in the lead was remade in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi earlier.
The Jeetu Joseph’s Drishyam is now being remade in English by Panorama Studios. They have joined hands with Gulfstream Pictures and JOAT Films to make Drishyam in Hollywood. Panorama Studios has acquired the international remake rights to Drishyam 1 & 2 from the original producers, Aashirvad Cinemas.
In a joint statement, Gulfstream’s Karz and Bindley said, ‘The film is a timeless thriller that has entranced audiences across the globe. We can’t wait to bring the movie to fans here in the U.S.’ The Panorama’s chairman and MD Kumar Mangat Pathak said, ‘Drishyam’s clever narrative has a universal appeal and we are keen to celebrate this story with audiences worldwide. After Korea and Hollywood, our mission is to produce ‘Drishyam’ in 10 countries in the next three to five years.’
Now that this timeless thriller is going Hollywood, it has to be seen if more of our films get the spotlight in the West and global cinema.
