South Indian film fans have a tradition of adding prefixes to their favourite actors. Some of such titles are Superstar, Megastar, and Power Star. Actor Kamal Haasan is referred to as Ulaganayagan (Universal Hero) by his fans and followers. Even in his films, title cards appear as “Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan.” Now, Kamal decided to drop that title.
In an official press note, Kamal stated, “It is my humble belief that the artist must not be elevated above the art. I prefer to remain grounded, constantly aware of my imperfections and my duty to improve. Hence, after considerable reflection, I feel compelled to respectfully decline all such titles or prefixes.” He then asked the media and fans to refer to him as Kamal Haasan or Kamal or KH.
“I humbly request that all my fans, the media, members of the film fraternity, party cadre and fellow Indians, to here on after, refer to me simply as Kamal Haasan or Kamal or KH.” Earlier Ajith also dropped his title Thala and requested everyone to call him Ajith Kumar.
