Why so much negativity on Kanguva: Jyothika

Suriya’s ambitious big-budget entertainer Kanguva, one of the much anticipated pan-India films this season after NTR’s Devara, fell short of the high expectations after its release on Thursday. Despite garnering significant buzz due to the scintillating trailers and tremendous promotional campaign, the film’s openings are not on par with trade expectations due to mediocre reviews and disappointing word of mouth. 

Kanguva secured a lot of negative feedback because of the terrible first half an hour which involves episodes of Suriya as Francis. Also, the loud background score for some scenes turned out to be an undoing aspect for the film. From critics to moviegoers, everyone criticised both these liabilities in Kanguva which they ultimately impacted the collections. Even the film’s producer Gnanavel Raja also admitted these two mistakes. 

Now, Suriya’s wife and actress Jyothika came in support for Kanguva. She called it a spectacle and hailed her husband for taking the cinema forward with a daring step. But, she expressed utmost disappointment with the way Kanguva has been targeted with a bad propoganda to only highlight the flaws instead of admiring the negative aspects. 

Jyothika took to her Instagram page and wrote about Kanguva. She shared her experience on watching the visual extravaganza and took a dig against the media and certain fraternities. Jyothika alleges that Kanguva fell for targeted negative campaign and felt disappointed with the amount of negativity spread around the film even before its release. 

Jyothika expressed surprise with the negative reviews for Kanguva and stated that the same was not done for most unintellectual big budget films with age old stories where women are demeaned and stalked. She said that critics have forgot writing about the positives in the film and concentrated on highlighting only the negatives. 

She agreed that the first half-an-hour didn’t work and the sound is jarring and defended that flaws are part of most films with experiments.
