The release of Pushpa 2: The Rule, starring Allu Arjun, is expected to reignite profitability for multiplex operator PVR Inox. With the film inching towards the 1000 Cr rupees club, there is no doubt that the movie has revived many theatres that lose the glory.
With huge opening day collection and a massive first weekend revenue, Pushpa 2 is the biggest blockbuster of Indian cinema this year. In many aspects, Pushpa 2 has created an alltime record especially in the ticket sales.
Also, compared to South, the North India has major multiplexes and with the poor performance of many Hindi films this year, the PVR Inox multiplex chain is suffering losses. Before the film’s release, the trade expectation is that there would be a gross collection of at ₹1000 crore, with ₹500 crore share from Hindi markets alone.
Now, looking at the current scenario, the profits will definitely revive the loss-making venture. In fact, the failures of the films is not the sole reason for the PVR Inox minting losses. The delayed film releases and the emergence of OTT also dented the profits of the theatre chain.
The trade analysts project a 33% quarter-on-quarter growth in Hindi collections, potentially generating ₹560 crore for PVR Inox. If Pushpa 2 meets expectations, it could restore pre-pandemic occupancy levels, enhancing profitability and supporting a stock recovery.
At the moment, the scenario looks reality. Pushpa 2 already expectations, at least in the North India. The film has become the fastest Hindi film to achieve a rare record of collecting 291 Cr rupees nett in 4 days. Easily, the film would generate double of what it is currently at.
Except for Baby John, no other Hindi film is making its way to theatres in the coming days. Interestingly, the film also will have South flavour. The film is the remake of Tamil film Theri, with Thaman scoring the film’s music and Keerthy Suresh playing the lead alongside Varun Dhawan.
Irrespective of the result of Baby John, Pushpa 2 would comfortably make big money at the box office, giving enough confidence to PVR Inox chain to come out of profits.
In a few more days, we can have a detailed analysis on the same.
