Bulli Raju: Did Anil Ravipudi’s Comedy Cross the Line?

Victory Venkatesh-starrer Sankranthiki Vasthunnam, directed by Anil Ravipudi, emerged as the biggest blockbuster in the Pongal race this year. This family comedy-drama connected with the audience well and is having a sensational run at the box office. One of the breakout characters of this film is Bulli Raju, played by Master Revanth.

Master Revanth played the role of Venkatesh’s son and an OTT addict in the movie. There are a few scenes in the film where he uses cuss words on elders due to the negative influence of OTT shows on him. The makers did not showcase him using the cuss words but added a music track in the background, conveying the essence that he is using bad words.

These scenes worked well among the audience and also made them split into laughter. However, it seems like a worrying concern.

This portrayal might send the wrong message to the younger generation. The makers may have intended to convey a message to kids to not be like Bulli Raju, as noted by Revanth during the success meet. Unfortunately, this message was not properly conveyed in the movie. In the film, Bulli Raju primarily swears at others, and no message is conveyed through the character and there is no character arc for the kid.

Anil Ravipudi has a history of passing important messages on girls in Bhagvanth Kesari and writing a powerful kid’s character in Supreme. But this character in Sankranthiki Vasthunnam unintentionally might send a wrong message to the kids in the society. For the sake of comedy, Anil penned this track but instead could have used the kid’s talent for something else.

Thus, a few sections of audiences are requesting the actor to stop writing such characters in the name of comedy.
