Radhe Shyam is considered to be one of the biggest failures in Telugu. Not just a cost failure, the film ended as a debacle at the box office in all aspects. The film’s leading lady Pooja Hegde also faced a lot of criticism after the film flopped.
However, the failure has landed her in another film in Tamil. Pooja revealed today that director Karthik Subbaraj offered her Retro, because of Radhe Shyam.
“I play a very different role in Retro. It is a different character. That’s something I love about South because every character has a mystery. I got cast in Retro, because Karthik Subbaraj liked the emotional scenes of me in Radhe Shyam. So he thought that he could use me in film like this,” shared Pooja Hegde.
The actress also added, “It just takes one filmmaker to put away everything else and see you and your performance in one film.”
Pooja Hegde plays Suriya’s wife role in the film and she has multiple shades. It is not an usual Karthik Subbaraj film where there is a lot of action. The director projects that the film has a proper love story against a backdrop where there are a lot of action sequences too.
Pooja Hegde’s only big bet in South currently is Retro. After a series of flops, she did not sign any film in South. If Retro becomes a hit, she will be back on demand and we have to see if she has enough scope to perform and grab a chance in some other film. Also, she has Vijay’s Jana Nayagan which could be a gamechanger for her.
