Unni Mukundan’s Marco was termed as the ‘most violent’ movie ever made in the language. The movie is now struggling to obtain TV rights.
Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has denied a plea by its producers for category conversion from ‘A’ certificate to ‘UA ‘ for obtaining TV rights. It rejected the satellite rights for the movie for television screening due to the extremely violent content.
The regional officer of CBFC has written for Centre’s intervention to prevent the screening of the movie Marco on OTT platforms also.
The Film Employees Federation of Kerala has criticized political leaders and youth associations for linking recent violence in society to violent themes in films.
Marco’s producer Shareef Muhammed stated that the intensity of violence will be reduced in his next film ‘Kaattalan’ and also says Marco was never intended to promote violence.
Marco was released in December 2024. The movie is a Malayalam action thriller directed and written by Haneef Adeni. The movie is all about a gangster Marco and the influential Adat family trying to take control over Kerala’s gold mafia.
