Industry Buzz: Bharata Ratna For Ilaiyaraaja?

Ilaiyaraaja is one of the legendary music composers in Indian cinema and the latest talk of the town is that he could be the next Bharatha Ratna. It is given to individuals who have made extraordinary contributions in their respective fields. Reports suggest that the official announcement might come out for Ugadi.

As he continues to be a Rajya Sabha member representing the BJP, his recent meeting with Narendra Modi is triggering speculation. Also, BJP is trying for a stronghold in Tamilnadu, and they can also use this for the potential mileage of the party.

Ilaiyaraaja has composed music for over 1500 films, spanning a career of multiple decades. Having already received the Padma Bhushan in 2010 and Padma Vibhushan in 2018, this honor would be a fitting tribute to his legacy.

A seven-time National Award winner for Best Music Direction and the recipient of 24 prestigious awards, Ilaiyaraaja has set numerous records in the industry. Recently, he made history as the first Asian composer to conduct a Western Classical Symphony at a grand musical event in London called Valiant.
