Bheemili MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao said that the government of Andhra Pradesh is aiming to transform Visakhapatnam into a film production hub.
On Saturday, Ganta Srinivasa Rao visited the Film Nagar Cultural Centre site, located in Thimmapuram. Speaking to the media there, Ganta said that apart from serving as a club, the cultural centre would also be used as a training facility for film technicians.
He said that many producers and directors in the Telugu film industry are showing interest in Visakhapatnam and added that star producer Allu Aravind has also shown interest in setting up a studio in Vizag.
Ganta Srinivasa Rao also criticised the recent rule of the club where family members of the committee members are automatically appointed as their successors. He said that many old clubs like Waltair Club, Golf Club, and Century Club wouldn’t follow such controversial rules.
He said that the government had to take back 10 acres of land originally allocated for the film cultural centre at Thotlakonda because of the objections raised by the Archaeology Department. He added that talks would be held soon with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan to find an alternative land for the centre.
