In recent times, Indian cinema has seen a surge in ultra-violent storytelling. With the success of Hindi film Kill and Malayalam film Macro, the violent films are taking the center stage. Inspired by such success, more filmmakers now seem willing to explore similar themes, pushing the limits of on-screen violence.
Now, an interesting showdown of such films will be witnessed on May 1st. One of the films is from Telugu while the other is from Tamil, featuring the most popular stars.
The first of the two films is Hit 3, starring Nani. Though it’s primarily an investigative thriller, the recently released trailer exposed the shocking violence. The movie has received an ‘A’ certificate. Nani is visibly moving away from the “natural star” image to a more matured action hero. The success of Dasara changed his strategy completely. The film is releasing on May 1st.
On the same day, Tamil star Suriya’s Retro is also hitting screens. Directed by Karthik Subbaraj and released in Telugu by Sithara Entertainments, the film too seems to fall into the same intense-action category. Its teaser and posters hint at a blood-soaked narrative.
Come May 1, audiences will find out just how far this shift is going to go.Interestingly, Suriya is co-producing Retro, just as Nani is doing with Hit 3.
