“Solar System To Be Aligned For Kalki 2’s Release”

There are eight planets in the solar system, and only when all of them align, Prabhas’ Kalki 2 will head for a release! Surprised? Yes, that is what Nag Ashwin shared at a recent event in Chennai. Although he was making a humorous remark, it’s more complicated to understand the dynamics of big-budget flicks.

In particular, Nag Ashwin was asked about when Kalki 2 will commence. The director said, “I do not know, actually. We will find out. The last time three or four planets aligned, we thought Kalki 1 would be released. Next time, when 7 or 8 planets are aligned, Kalki 2 will be released,” said Nag Ashwin.

Looking at the bigger picture, Kalki is a massive success worldwide. Nag Ashwin projected that it is going to be a pan-world project, and living up to the expectations, the film did magic at the box office across the globe. The success automatically raises the expectations and adds more pressure on the team.

No amount of pre-production is sufficient in such a situation, but trusting Nag Ashwin and his team, they will start filming only when they think they are ready to go.

Now, the key challenge is to align the dates of the star cast. With Prabhas, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, and Amitabh Bachchan on board, it’s very tough to get them all to the same date. The planning itself requires a lot of time.

Mounting a film like Kalki is a big task, and now, to mount the second part on a grand scale again will require investing time, money, and effort. With a lot of VFX involved in the film, the makers need to be aligned with the post-production houses on small details as well. On top of that, routine challenges like getting shoot permissions will also be there.

So, subtly and humorously, Nag Ashwin indirectly stated that he practically doesn’t know when the film begins, and finding a perfect release date is a task in itself, like aligning all the planets.
