Telugu film exhibitors had earlier planned to shut down theatres, expressing dissatisfaction with the current rental system and demanding a percentage-based model similar to that of multiplexes. However, after discussions involving multiple parties, the idea was reportedly dropped. Now, Andhra Pradesh Cinematography and Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh has called for a detailed investigation into the renewed decision by certain exhibitors.
According to the minister, the plan to shut down theatres starting June 1st just days before the scheduled release of the highly anticipated film Hari Hara Veera Mallu raises serious concerns. He has directed Home Department Chief Secretary Kumar Vishwajit to investigate the matter and identify those responsible for this move.
As per a statement from the Janasena Party’s official handle, reports suggest that four individuals may be behind this last-minute decision to halt operations. In response, Minister Durgesh stressed the need for immediate action and full transparency.
He further instructed officials to examine whether a cartel of exhibitors and distributors is influencing industry decisions in a way that could harm film releases and state revenue. The government also seeks to determine how many upcoming releases could be affected and to assess the potential impact on tax collections due to the proposed shutdown.
Hari Hara Veera Mallu is scheduled for release next month, and the government appears keen to ensure the film has a smooth and successful launch. During the previous administration, Pawan Kalyan faced several challenges during his film releases. Fans are now hoping such obstacles do not resurface.
